TL;DR

This is the closest of the comparisons. In 42 Reddit threads that judge both, Lovable came out mostly positive in 14 and Base44 in 10, and threads that picked one chose Lovable 8 times and Base44 3 times. Lovable is praised for design and for code you can take with you. Base44 is praised for a backend that comes built in, so people complain about the database far less, but they complain about lock-in more: 28% of all threads judging Base44 against 16% for Lovable, mostly because exporting the backend is limited. Both burn credits. If you might ever leave, Lovable with your own Supabase project is the easier exit; if you never will, Base44’s all-in-one setup is less to manage.

I’m Denys, a full-stack and AI engineer, and I work on a lot of apps that began in no-code builders. I haven’t built the same app in both, so this comparison comes from what people who pay for both write, counted and quoted.

How I read the threads

I pulled every thread from r/lovable, r/Base44, r/vibecoding, r/nocode, r/boltnewbuilders, r/cursor and r/SaaS that matched searches like “base44”, “lovable”, “switched” or “export” between November 2025 and October 2026 and had at least four comments, from the Arctic Shift archive of public Reddit data. Of 710 threads, 445 contain a real opinion about at least one tool; 42 judge both Lovable and Base44, and 85 judge Base44 at all. For each thread I recorded the tone toward each tool, the reasons, any move between tools, and one quote. Every quote below appears word for word in the archived thread, and I opened each quoted thread on Reddit before publishing to check it’s still there.

r/lovable is much bigger than r/Base44, so Lovable’s problems are better documented than Base44’s. Read the numbers as a direction.

What 42 threads say about each tool

How 42 threads judged each tool. Threads that discuss both. Reddit, 11.2025 to 10.2026. Lovable: mostly positive: 14; Lovable: mixed: 15; Lovable: mostly negative: 12; Base44: mostly positive: 10; Base44: mixed: 16; Base44: mostly negative: 16.

Unlike Cursor or Bolt, Base44 is a real match for Lovable in these threads, and people move both ways: two said they went from Lovable to Base44 and two from Base44 to Lovable. Where a thread picks, it is usually Lovable, and usually for the output: “every time I’ve ran the same prompt on B44 vs Lovable, Lovable’s output is magnitudes better. Not even close.” A timed comparison from r/Base44 says the same about speed: “Feature that took me 2 hours in Base44 took maybe 45 minutes in Lovable.”

Base44 has its fans, mainly among people who want less to set up: “the design was smooth unlike loveable and bolt which is like trying to fly a starship with no training”.

Where each tool hurts

Share of threads with each complaint, %. Base44: 85 threads. Lovable: 344 threads. Base44: credits and price: 34; Lovable: credits and price: 41; Base44: lock-in and export: 28; Lovable: lock-in and export: 16; Base44: support: 12; Lovable: support: 5; Base44: backend and database: 2; Lovable: backend and database: 28.
Figure 2. Share of all threads judging each tool that contain the complaint: 85 for Base44, 344 for Lovable, November 2025 to October 2026.

The chart shows the trade. Lovable’s backend complaints are about the database and where it lives; Base44 barely gets them, because its backend is built in and you don’t set it up. The price of that is the exit.

Base44: lock-in. The most specific complaints are about what you can take with you: “Unfortunately base44 does not allow downloading backend code nor having an app marketplace to share/sell your app.” In a thread about moving a Lovable app over, one commenter compared the platforms: “Base44 is the most egregious offender as far as lock in goes.” And from r/nocode, on the limit before the exit: “Base44 apps hit a hard ceiling when you need real data relationships, payment flows, or any custom logic”.

Lovable: the backend you can take, if you set it up that way. Lovable’s advantage here only holds if the database is in your own Supabase project. A Base44 user put it as the one thing they envy: “The one thing that I love about Lovable is that it creates the backend on Supabase so you own the app’s backend upfront.” On Lovable Cloud, the database and users live in Lovable’s backend, and the export is more work.

Both: credits. 34% of Base44 threads and 41% of Lovable threads complain about cost. Support is a sharper complaint for Base44, 12% of threads against 5%.

Which one should you use?

  • You want the best-looking first version fastLovable, per most threads that compare output.
  • You never want to touch a database or hostingBase44 has the backend built in. Accept that leaving later is hard.
  • You might hire a developer or move laterLovable with your own Supabase project and GitHub from day one. It is the easiest exit in this set.

Cost complaints (all threads) 41% 34%

Whatever you pick, check the data access

A built-in backend doesn’t mean a private one. Security comes up in 12% of the threads that judge Base44 and 13% of those that judge Lovable, and it’s usually the same problem: one user can see another user’s data. On Lovable, that is a Supabase table without row level security. Test with two users before real data goes in: the steps for Lovable are in my Lovable app security checklist, and my free Supabase security checker reads a project’s grants and policies without reading your rows.

Questions people ask

Is Base44 better than Lovable? For output and design, most threads that compare say no. For not dealing with a backend at all, Base44 is simpler.

Can I move from Base44 to Lovable? The frontend, yes. The backend logic and data are the hard part, as the threads above describe. Plan to rebuild the backend in Supabase and move the data yourself.

Can I move from Lovable to Base44? People did, but few. The more common move from both is to a coding agent on the exported repo; see Lovable alternatives: where 66 Reddit users went.

What about Bolt and Cursor? Same method, same threads: Lovable vs Bolt and Lovable vs Cursor.
